Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at dr.rob@familychiropractic.tv if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Custom orthotics are medical devices designed to align the foot and ankle in an anatomically efficient position. Unlike generic insoles, they are custom-made to correct specific foot imbalances, reducing strain and improving stability.

Orthotics support and stabilize the foot, improving weight distribution and alignment. This helps alleviate pain in the feet, knees, hips, and back while preventing injuries caused by improper biomechanics.

Anyone experiencing foot, knee, hip, or back pain can benefit. Even if you’re not currently in pain, orthotics can prevent future issues by addressing biomechanical imbalances before they cause discomfort.

Most orthotics fit into standard footwear, but shoes with removable insoles and good arch support work best. Dress shoe versions can be made for tighter-fitting footwear.

Depending on the evaluation, some orthotics can be made within 7 days, while others require off-site manufacturing, which can take up to 14 days.

Your feet may take time to adjust. Custom orthotics correct long-standing imbalances, so initial discomfort is normal. Gradual wear is recommended for a smooth transition.

No. Orthotics improve muscle efficiency by correcting alignment, reducing fatigue, and preventing strain. They support natural movement rather than replacing muscle function.

Yes. A proper fit ensures the orthotics work effectively. If a shoe cannot accommodate your orthotics, it is not the right shoe for you.

Remove them at night to allow for drying, especially if they become damp. Clean with a damp cloth and dry completely before use.

Orthotics should be checked annually, as foot mechanics can change over time. Like eyeglasses, they may need adjustments or replacement to maintain effectiveness.
